Hi! I’m Kate, a bookworm and a language enthusiast. For many years I enjoy reading books, listening to audiobooks, watching movies in different languages but I still can’t speak. I cannot express myself and my thoughts as clearly as fluently as I want (without a prepared script).
The same problem with my native language – Russian. Public speaking always was a nightmare to me… 🙈
So that is why I decided to start making videos in different languages. I really want to get out of my comfort zone, to overcome my fear of speaking in foreign languages and have an opportunity to talk to all of you guys about everything!!!
My friends call me a silent polyglot …. but I don’t want to be silent anymore! :)

You know… there is something magical about books. The more I read the more I want to read!
Reading books in other languages for me is always a way of knowing new things, learning about other cultures and customs, understanding different ways of expressing our thoughts and needs in different languages. Every new language for me is like a new opportunity, a key to better understanding our world – so complicated but so interesting, so wonderful!

The Distance Between Us (book in English)

Почти два года не читала художественных книг на английском. Просто так, для удовольствия, как раньше. Не было ни времени, ни сил. Да и желания особо не было тоже, если честно.
И вдруг, сама не знаю почему, неделю назад снова открыла мой старый файл “Хочу почитать” и наугад выбрала книжку The Distance Between Us (автор Kasie West).
Ух, как тяжело было начать читать после долгого перерыва, даже несмотря на то, что английский – первый мой иностранный язык! Оказалось, что за время погружения в испанский, польский и армянский, мозг настолько отвык от английского стиля речи, что поначалу ощутимо сопротивлялся и скрипел, как несмазанная телега.
Удивительно, но почему-то именно сейчас, во время чтения этой простенькой книжки, я вдруг четко осознала, что способ выражения мыслей, формирование образов и особенности построения фраз – в каждом языке они разные, уникальные, свои собственные!

Чем дольше их изучаю, тем больше задумываюсь над фразой А.П. Чехова: “Сколько языков ты знаешь, столько раз ты человек.”

Открываю для себя Instagram. Отличная вещь на полистать за чаем! Собрала интересную подборку на английском, испанском, польском, армянском, французском. Теперь когда есть свободная минутка – включаю телефон, просматриваю ленту и ролики проигрываются на разных языках. Так здОрово! Как будто весь мир на ладони! 😊
