VERY interesting Belgian novel I’ve read in Spanish – Quest for Fire / Learn languages by reading

Hi friends! Today I’d like to talk to you about a book that I’ve recently read in Spanish – Los conquistadores del fuego. I’m going to share with you what I liked and disliked about this book, and what phrases I, as a native Russian speaker, found interesting.

Actually it’s an old Belgian novel La Guerre du Feu by J.-H. Rosny aîné. The book was originally written in French more than a hundred years ago (in 1909) and became quite popular in the 20th century – thanks to its film adaption and also because the book was translated into many languages:

French – La Guerre du Feu (original title)
English – Quest for Fire
Russian – Борьба за огонь
Polish – Walka o ogień
Portuguese – A Guerra do Fogo
Italian – La guerra del fuoco
Greek – Ο πόλεμος της φωτιάς
Bulgarian – Борба за огън
Spanish – La guerra del fuego / En busca del fuego
etc.

I think, in most languages the title literally means – The War for Fire. I hope to be able to read this book in its original language (French) someday.

I would like to hear your thoughts, guys. Please write in the comments, have you ever read this book, and in what language did you read it? Did you enjoy the story?

Also if you have watched the movie “Quest for Fire”, please tell me if it’s worth watching. I haven’t seen it yet and I would be really interested in hearing your opinion.

Thank you so much for watching!

🔴 About
Hi! I’m Kate, a bookworm and a language enthusiast. For many years I enjoy reading books, listening to audiobooks, watching movies in different languages but I still can’t speak. I cannot express myself and my thoughts as clearly as fluently as I want (without a prepared script).
The same problem with my native language – Russian. Public speaking always was a nightmare to me… 🙈
So that is why I decided to start making videos in different languages. I really want to get out of my comfort zone, to overcome my fear of speaking in foreign languages and have an opportunity to talk to all of you guys about everything!!!
My friends call me a silent polyglot …. but I don’t want to be silent anymore! :)

An interesting book about dragons!

Just finished reading Voices of Dragons by Carrie Vaughn and I really enjoyed this book. ❤️
The story was so gripping that kept me up into the night! I just couldn’t put the book down!
Can’t wait for the sequel! 😘

Two interesting phrases from this book:
🇺🇲 (En) 👉👉👉 🇷🇺 (Ru)

🔹 hand-me-down = подержанный (hand-me-down truck)
🔹 walk/be on eggshells = ходить на цыпочках, подбирать слова (… he was walking on eggshells around her).
